Lapis uses date back earlier than B.C. 
Ancient Egyptions used it for protection and as a sign of royalty, wisdom and knowledge.
Cleopatra wore these stones as jewelry, muddled it and used it as make up (her eye shadow) and even used it as a dye for clothing that royalty wore.
It is also said that Mother Mary's Robe had Lapis Lazuli woven into it.
